ONA by Agne

I am a textiles and fashion designer and maker, currently residing in Northern Ireland.

I have been passionate about textiles all my life and specialise in knitting. I create knitwear and homeware collections, as well as teaching others to knit. My latest work involves arm knitting with various chunky fibres, merino and man made       synthetics.

I am a big believer in slow fashion- shopping less, but buying high quality items. My work celebrates quality garments and home-ware accessories that will last you a long time, can be passed on or up-cycled into something new. I source only natural and sustainable materials, while incorporating better practices throughout the supply chain. My aim is to reduce the environmental impact of fast fashion.

About Me

  • I  am originally from Lithunia, but have been living in UK for almost 13 years
  • I graduated from The University of Ulster in 2012 with a Degree in Business
  • I have been knitting since I was 6 years old. My grandmother taught me a lot of the techniques and styles that I often use – knitting, crochet, sewing.
  • Passionate about textiles,  I love creating my own patters and designs, mixing techniques and teaching others.
  • Knitting is a great form of relaxation for me. Knitting is my happy place.

My Brand – ONA by Agne

Ona is my grandmother’s name. I thought it would be a nice way to honour her memory, as she was the one who inspired me the most, from her I truly learned to create. She introduced me to knitting, she used to let me wreck her sewing machine, I would sit for hours and sew, asking her over and over to thread the needles, and it felt like magic.

I discovered chunky merino wool over 2 years ago and fell in love with it. I have been specialising in chunky knits ever since. I love to use traditional techniques and crafts to create modern designs and the chunky merino wool is perfect for this!

In 2016, my first autumn/winter collection “Kilpos and poms” was showed in Belfast Fashion week (Oct 2016).

A Little Bit About Jemma!

You may have noticed on our feeds some rather lovely animations from a talented designer, Jemma Leigh Conway! For anyone who’s missed them, pop over to our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages for a gander.

Jemma is a 23 year old designer of cards and accessories, and is even looking to move into homeware, too! She graduated from Birmingham City University in 2016 with a BA (Hons) Fashion Design degree, where she unveiled her graduate collection at Graduate Fashion Week 2016 and Edinburgh Charity Fashion Show 2017. Wowee!
She’s worked as a Bag and Accessories Designer & Pattern Cutter since graduating, for a small family run business just outside of a lovely little town called Frome in Somerset, where they actively celebrate and promote all the local skilled independent designers, makers and businesses.
She started designing her own greetings cards (with my kitten Timmy being my inspiration) before expanding into last year’s Valentines themed cards, where it really took off! From there, she’s played around with punderful puns on her cards with beautiful hand drawn animations to match.

All her dazzling products, including cards she designed with Portlebay Popcorn in mind,  can be found on her website, or at local markets that are announced on her social media pages!

We All Love The Devon Coast

Yesterday we introduced our neighbours The Devon Fudge Company (you can read all about it in our previous post!) and today we would like to introduce The Devon Beach Company! A charming business based a little further down the road than our fudgey neighbours. Gordie and Marilu brought The Devon Beach Company to life in 2015. Although the company was initially proposed as an online business, during the summer months Gordie and Marilu decided to open the first Devon Beach Company shop in Churchstow, Devon!

The wonderful Devon Beach Company products are inspired by the gorgeous surroundings of the South Hams and allow all to introduce some of the beautiful coast into our hearts and homes, no matter where we live! All their products are influenced by the serenity and beauty of the local landscape, sea and sky. Deep blues, natural textures and subtle finishes all chosen to create chic coastal living where ever you call home.

Whether designed in-house or sourced from around the world, their range has award winning, eco-friendly and truly functional features. From comfy cushions and bean bags to  kitchen couture and luscious lighting, all naturally influenced, to help bring a relaxed coastal mood to your home.

We also adore their luxurious beach range including their bestselling hooded ponchos, Turkish towels and sand free mat which will make any trip to the beach feel like a breeze!

Meet the Meco Tote

It’s Day 5 of our advent competition and today we are introducing Catherine and Emma, two Berkshire based mums, and the masterminds behind Meco! These two lovely ladies together created the perfect handbag, which is not only super practical but also very gorgeous too! This fabulous creation is called a Meco tote.

The gorgeous Catherine and Emma

The Meco tote is a new concept in handbag simplicity. Made from silicone, each one of the six sumptuous colours looks fabulous carried by the hand or over the shoulder, and contrasts perfectly with the understated handles. It also has a hidden magnetic clasp which is an essential security feature. The tote measures 36 centimetres high x 30 centimetres wide x 11 centimetres deep, (excluding handles), making it the perfect size for every day use!

The Meco Bag

This enchanting tote wears unbelievably well; you can throw mud at it, pour coffee on it or even colour it in with felt tips and it will wipe clean with a little soap and water! It doesn’t scratch, fade or stretch and is harder wearing than leather. What a dream come true!

The Sea tote

Oh wait, there’s even more glorious news! The bag is 100% vegan and cruelty free,  and the silicone used to create the tote is a natural, sand based material which is recyclable. The PU handles are also less harmful to the environment and more durable than PVC – AMAZING!

We are in love. To be in with a chance of winning a Meco tote, pop over to one of our social media pages (Instagram, Facebook or Twitter) and follow the competition directions! BEST OF LUCK! (This competition launches at 5pm tonight)

Portlebay Glitter Gals

This summer, we’re wanting to give away as many bundles of love and joy as one popcorn company possibly can. Why? Why not! Everyone needs a pick-me-up every now and then, and sometimes a little package of popcorn can do just that.

But for when popcorn doesn’t cut the mustard, we like to team up with companies who love sprinkling a little happiness as much as we do. Enter: Wish Upon a Sparkle.

This lovely lot have given us not only enough glittery goodness to send out to a lucky winner of our Summer of Love competition, but lots of pots of fairy dust so we can show you all how to make yourself into a bona fide Tinkerbell.

We’ve created three signature looks for you to recreate yourself for your next big gig, or just for the hell of it at home! Inspired by three of our popcorn flavours, Sea Salted, Wasabi & Ginger and Very Berry, it could not be easier (or messier) to recreate yourselves.

All you really need for these looks is a good, trusty pot of Vaseline, some sort of make-up or paint brush you don’t mind using, some glitter and idea of where you want to put it. It will come off (relatively) easily, but there is a reason people loved Glitter Bombs so much – it gets absolutely everywhere and you better have a decent hoover, as adorable Henry doesn’t always cut it!

Sweet & Salty Goddess

Lovely Faye, usually in Accounts, got hurtled into the world of being a mesmerising glitter creature, through the magic of Vaseline and glitter nonetheless! We created this asymmetric look by pulling Faye’s locks to one side and then pinning into place, leaving us a lovely canvas to spread some magic on the one side. Definitely the most dramatic look of the three!

Very Berry Fairy

Millie? Who’s Millie? This is our new office sugar plum fairy, who used to be our Marketing Intern. Long hair is best for this look, and Millie’s is so long we curl it from one side of her head round to her shoulder, and then smother it in glitter of course! Incredibly easily, and put as much in your hair as you like, but be faced with a very messy shower later.

Wasabi & Ginger Mermaid

Lucy has graciously stepped down from her life as Marketing Manager to become a part-time mermaid, but without the gills to her relief. We chose this flavour look, yes for the comic relief, but also green does go with red heads really rather well. Short hair looks are a little tricker, but if you or a pal is good with plaits they can work really well.

If you’re wanting to transform yourself into a glitter gal yourself, it really couldn’t be easier to do, and Wish Upon a Sparkle have a dazzling collection to choose from! If you want to enter the competition where you could win Portlebay Popcorn, glorious glitter AND amazing glowing jewellery from Cornwall based brand Disco Beads, you have until Sunday to enter! Check out our Facebook page for the details!

Earth Kind Originals & Portlebay Popcorn

If there’s one thing we like better than making and selling all of our lovely handmade produce, it’s working with other people who love to do the same.

Earth Kind Originals are a Cornish fashion label, that specialise in using organic and sustainable fabrics in all of their clothing. Founder Helen Davies first set the up the business in her parents’ garage back in 2009, and has since upgraded to becoming an award winning ethical fashion label, selling direct from there store in St Just, and through independent retailers around the UK. Go Helen!

“Long coastal walks with Buster the EKO spaniel, wild swims and surfs on blustery winter mornings, reminds us of why we do what we do. We aspire to promote a well-balanced lifestyle and feel good factor in everything we do, and we hope our brand reflects this”

Just like us, Helen and the team draws inspiration from the wild and windy seaside, with the Cornish landscape reflected in their style, their natural materials and of course is a welcome escape from the office!
