Here’s a Little Bit of Information About These Two Lovely Brands….

Fistral Surf School

As we are very lucky and live in Devon, we are surrounded by many beautiful beaches! Although the beach is normally a sunny destination, a winter beach is just as charming and many of us popcorn-enthusiats visit all year round! We even have some wild members of our team that have no reservations about jumping in the sea and will spend a couple hours splashing about on surf boards! (Others prefer to just spectate and keep warm in our woolly hats and gloves!)

With our love of the beach in mind, we are absolutely thrilled that The Fistral Surf School have partnered with us! UntitledFistral Beach is the undisputed home for British surfing with its big sandy beach and famous waves. Sitting at the top of the beach is Fistral Beach Surf School, a family run business that has its doors open all year. The school offers surf, bodyboarding and stand up paddle boarding coaching to all ranges of abilities and ages. Their dedicated and friendly team have over 20 years of experience, and strive to provide professional coaching. All equipment has been carefully handpicked, providing the best quality possible to ensure that you have maximum satisfaction and all equipment is included in the lesson prices. Open all year round, the surf school and hire centre has all the equipment to keep you stoked and toasty no matter what the Atlantic Ocean throws at you, from toasty summers to frosty winters the hire centre has you covered.

Joules

Joules, the very lovely clothing company that is all about family and colour, started over 25 wonderful years ago when Tom Joule started selling clothing at country fairs and events. As our Portlebay Poppery is located in a rather rural part of the country and we looooooove the countryside life, we have to admit Joules is a big YES from us!

Rubies in the Rubble

Day 15 of the advent competition welcomes our partner Rubies in the Rubble! Rubies in the Rubble is a sustainable food brand committed to fighting food waste. They create award-winning products from fruit and veg that would otherwise be wasted due to shape, size and colour. In other words, condiments with a conscience…Their ingredients have to pass a taste test, not a beauty contest. It doesn’t matter if it’s too big, too ripe or just plain pear-shaped. What matters to them is making the best condiments around! Check them out here!

Rubies in the Rubble’s Christmas pack
Rubies in the Rubble founder, Jenny, started reading about the problem of food waste after seeing the amount of discarded produce at fruit & veg markets across London.
Beautiful mangoes, cranberries & tomatoes all headed for landfill, often because
they simply didn’t look right.
Although much of the discarded produce is perfectly edible, much is
thrown away due to aesthetic imperfections, over-forecasted demand or
inefficiency in storing & distributing.
The scale of the problem of food waste got Jenny thinking about what
could be done with all this surplus produce. Surely there was a way of
creating a delicious, first-class product using excess produce?
Armed with some family recipes and a car-bootful of rescued fruit & veg
from the New Covent Garden market, the experimentation in the kitchen
began!
We absolutely adore Rubies in the Rubble’s ethos and are very delighted that they are  a part of our competition. To be in with a chance of winning some of these scrumptious condiments and a box of our Portlebay Popcorn, head over to our social media pages (Facebook, Instagram or Twitter) and follow the instructions! (The competition launches at 5pm!)

Portlebay’s Pimped Christmas Wrapping

Gift giving at Christmas is one of the many delightful parts of the festive period! We love the joy that it brings and all the prep that comes with it! However, a gift wouldn’t be as enchanting without the decorative wrap and accessories! So we have come up with four simple but chic looks for you to pimp your Christmas wrapping (these looks work best wrapped around boxes.)

You will need:

  • Brown wrapping paper (parcel paper)
  • Some pretty/festive twine
  • Some festive accessories to tie onto the parcel (these can be purchased at any shops that sell crafty things!)
  • Cello tape
  • Scissors

You will need

Step 1: Measure up and cut accordingly the amount of brown paper that is required to cover your present. Carefully wrap the gift, but do be attentive as brown paper does crease easily and so any folds that you may need to re-do could leave crinkles.

Step 2: Take the twine and tie it around the gift (not to tightly else the paper will crinkle). Once you have brought the twine back to the front side, tie it into a simple knot making sure that you still have quite a lot twine left for fastening your accessory.

Step 3: Place your festive accessory on top of the twine knot and then carefully tie a tight knot to keep the decoration secure. To finish off the look tie a bow on top of the knot and trim any extra twine. TA- DAH!

We would love to see how you’ve pimped your Christmas wrapping, do send us some snaps!
